Backing up?

Postby Mbattled » Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:59 pm

I've just finished installing PostgreSQL 8.3 and converting my Access database.

No problems encountered.

However, I wanted to back up the new PostgreSQL database just as a matter of course and, when I attempted to do so, I was prompted for the database file name I wished to back up. The file needed to have a .backup extension and I didn't know where to locate it.

My question is, how does one back up a brand new PostgreSQL database.

Thank you in advance for any advice proffered.

It's not asking you to select a file, it's asking you to enter a file name and folder location where you want the backup to go. Give it a name that you want to use for the backup file.

Wow, I apologize for my stupidity.

Now, when I proceed a window pops up asking me to select location of pg_dump.exe file.

Please advise.

If it brings up a browse dialog box point it to that file in the C:\Program Files\Postgres\8.3\bin folder.
